Fender Japan and Pokémon Center have translated the original 1996 Pokémon Red and Green games into two anniversary instruments: a Red Version Stratocaster and a Green Version Telecaster. Both are made in Japan, covered in game-derived pixel art and fitted with pickguards that shift toward a fluorescent look as the viewing angle changes. Each package also includes a dedicated hard case, illustrated certificate and a tin of 11 commemorative picks.
The shared headline feature is the 8-Bit Sound System. Pressing the volume knob adds electronic tones inspired by the games’ background music to the guitar’s natural output, rather than simply changing the finish or accessories. Fender also developed separate single-coil sets for the two models: the Stratocaster is voiced for higher output and a focused modern response, while the Telecaster emphasizes balanced output, clarity and crisp highs.
The visual details go deeper than the bodies. Both guitars carry a custom neck plate with a 30th-anniversary pixel-art mark, while the Red and Green graphics preserve the distinct identities of the two Japanese launch titles. That makes the collection part playable instrument, part carefully specified anniversary object, with the sound circuit giving the collaboration a functional idea beyond the usual licensed-guitar treatment.
Each model is priced at ¥396,000 including tax. Sales are being handled through a Pokémon Center Online lottery in Japan, with applications open from November 19 at 12:00 JST until November 24 at 16:59 JST and domestic shipping only. Fender says players in other regions should consult their local official sites for any separate availability.

Why it matters
Licensed guitars rarely alter the signal path; the 8-Bit Sound System makes this collaboration musically distinctive while the separate pickup designs keep the two models from being cosmetic twins.
