Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' original lineup reunited on September 16 at Nashville's Americana Honors & Awards, their first full performance together since the band's 2002 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Chris Stapleton handled lead vocals as Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch and Ron Blair played American Girl and Breakdown.
Steve Ferrone and Scott Thurston then joined the group for You Wreck Me, marking their first performance with the Heartbreakers since Petty's death in 2017. The evening also included a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award for Petty and the band, accepted by Adria Petty.

Why it matters
The performance brought together both the original and later Heartbreakers around a rare, carefully framed reunion rather than a new touring lineup.
