About Tom Morello

Tom Morello is the guitarist of Rage Against the Machine, and later of Audioslave, Street Sweeper Social Club and his solo project The Nightwatchman, known for treating the guitar as a sound-design tool. His best-known guitar is "Arm the Homeless", a patchwork instrument he began assembling in 1986 and spent two years refitting with parts from 1980s shred guitars, including a graphite Kramer-style neck, an Ibanez Edge tremolo and active EMG pickups. It is painted with a hippopotamus design and the slogan it is named after.

His second famous guitar is the Telecaster "Sendero Luminoso", which is stock apart from its stickers and is strung with Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys (.010-.046). Much of the Rage, Audioslave and Nightwatchman material is in drop D.

The rig that goes with them is built around a DigiTech Whammy pitch-shifter, a kill switch for his signature stutter effect, and a Marshall JCM800 2205 50-watt head with a Peavey cabinet.
