About Jackson
Jackson Guitars grew out of Grover Jackson's work at Charvel, which he took over in 1978. In 1980 he and Randy Rhoads worked out the radical guitar that became the first Jackson design; because it was such a departure from the Strat-style guitars Charvel was known for, it carried Jackson's own name instead. The King V, Kelly, Warrior, Soloist and Dinky followed as the company became a staple of hard rock and metal.
Fender acquired the Jackson and Charvel companies in the fall of 2002. Jackson guitars are now made in Fender's factories in Corona, California and Ensenada, Mexico, alongside lower-priced Asian-built models.
The brand remains closely associated with metal players, and Guitar Radar follows its signature models, such as those for Phil Collen and Wes Borland, as well as its USA Custom Shop builds.
